Spiritual Journey

Faith is a crucial aspect of all that happens at the College. It is the bottom line of all that we do and say. Building a healthy relationship with Jesus is of paramount importance to us and we strive to make this a reality even in the individual lives of our staff and students by providing daily mass.

The community chapel is adjacent to the sprawling sports grounds and this is done on purpose. This is a Salesian principal to show that Jesus is interested in the mundane reality of the young and not a detached far away God.

Students are encouraged to visit the Blessed Sacrament during the break, bringing God into their free time. The group Friends of Dominic Savio and the monthly and summer live-ins also aim at organising very creative prayer sessions.

Artistic Discovery

The educational experience of each student would not be complete without activities that address his artistic development. Hence at Savio College this aspect is given its due importance.

Art lessons are an integral part of the curriculum in the first two years of schooling at Savio College. All students are encouraged to participate in various forms of art. Each student is given the message that art is a means of communication and therapy.

Furthermore, “A school without music is a school without a soul,” Don Bosco used to say. Hence students study Music Appreciation during their first two years of schooling and are then encouraged to show their musical flare and talent by joining the school orchestra, forming part of the school choir or sing during musicals which are staged at the College.

Students are also encouraged to express their drama skills during three major events in the school’s cultural calendar. Various students and teachers participate in these theatrical presentations and such activities further enhance the unity between students and staff. They also help students develop their whole personality and makes them even more sure and confident.

Physical Development

Sport is a central theme at Savio College and a strong sporting tradition has been built over the years. A variety of sport facilities that can be found in the school – football pitches, outdoor / indoor volleyball and basketball courts, indoor handball court, and an indoor 5-a-side football pitch.

Boys are encouraged to participate in various activities and sport teams in various disciplines. These teams take part in school and inter-school tournaments that are organized during the scholastic year.

Sport teams are fielded in football, basketball, volleyball, handball and athletics. Although the main emphasis is that everyone should participate in sport, over the years the school has produced very able sportsmen and athletes, some of which have even managed to establish new national records in particular events at their level.

Sport helps build physically fit bodies and provides a very healthy way of using free time. Over and above it helps to develop determination, a sense of wanting to achieve, team spirit and knowing how to celebrate winning and taking a defeat in a respectful and mature manner.

Parental Collaboration

At Savio, parents are seen as major co-educators and have an essential role to play in the education of their children. Parents are also considered to be an integral part of the Salesian family at Savio College.

There is one Parents’ Day in each scholastic year and informative and formative meetings for parents are organised regularly during the scholastic year.

Formal reports are sent twice each term or even more frequent if the need arises.

When a student joins our Salesian family at the College, his parents join as well and we cater for their spiritual and formative development too through a Lectio Divina monthly, a monthly meeting on the formation of the young and a recreational afternoon once a term where students and parents have fun together.

Throughout the scholastic year, parents also have a weekend live-in organised for them were they can come together and share on issues relevant to them.

Furthermore, the baking of honey rings and figolli, the bikeathlon and other fund raising events help parents to truly get to know our College and feel thoroughly at home in it too.

Parent Teacher Association

A dynamic PTA committee meets regularly with the school’s management team to discuss issues relevant to our school’s academic life. The committee is also very much intent on offering great support in the organisation of various fund raising activities.
