St. Dominic Savio

Domenico Savio was born at San Giovanni di Riva on the 2nd April 1842 to a poor peasant family. He went to Don Bosco’s salesian oratory in Turin at about 12 years of age and was mesmerized at Don Bosco’s motto, Da Mihi Animas Caetera Tolle – Give me souls and take away the rest.

He was a lively young person, sure of himself and and in a very close relationship with Jesus. He was a born leader well sought after by his companions and dearly loved by all boys for his open proclamation of his faith in all that he did at the youth club. Domenic wanted to become a priest but died at 15 years of age in Mondonio, Turin in the odour of sanctity on the 5th March 1857.

He was canonized as the first teenage saint who was not a martyr, on the 12th June 1854. He is acknowledged as the epitome of the Salesian Preventive System of education. Our College proudly bears him as our patron saint.
