On Thursday 17^th March four of our Form 4 students participated in the sixth edition of the Malta Mathematics Olympiad. This competition is organised by the Malta Mathematical Society and the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department within the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education. The aim of the Olympiad is to foster problem-solving skills in young students in an atmosphere of healthy competition whilst promoting team work. This competition was open for students attending both State and Non-State secondary schools in Malta and Gozo.

First, Second and Third prizes were all won by our students. First prize was awarded to Peter Valletta of 4G, second prize to Kurt Dalli of 4G, and third prize to Jurgen Gatt also of 4G. The other Savio College team member was Christian Chetchuti of 4Y. The top team award was also won by Savio College team. Second and third prizes were won by Verdala International School and San Andrea School respectively.

The Prizes were distributed by the Hon. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, Chairperson for the Malta Council for Science and Technology, and the whole event was sponsored by Bank of Valletta.

A huge congratulations and well done goes to Kevin, Kurt, Jurgen and Christian as well as to Mr. Philip Borg their Maths teacher who trained them for the event – you made us proud! Since the day of the event was Parents’ Day at the college, regretfully the team could not be accompanied by Mr. Borg. Instead the team was accompanied by Mr. Mark Duca and Mr. Kenneth Debono, two of our LSAs.
